Bringing technical ideas closer to the customers who need them

You know the problem because you have experienced it. You have applied your expertise to developing a solution. Now you are working out how to turn that solution into a product people understand, use and buy.

I work alongside a small number of technical founders to help make that happen.

As a Chartered Engineer with a PhD and experience across engineering, software, consumer products and sport, I can engage with the technical detail while connecting it to customer needs and business priorities. My involvement combines advice, guidance and practical work, shaped around what will make the greatest difference.

Product Partnerships

Does this sound familiar?

The technology works, but explaining its value is harder

You can describe what your product does. Helping a customer understand where it fits, why it matters and how they would use it can require a different conversation.

There are more possibilities than time

Different markets, customer requests and development ideas compete for attention. You need to decide what deserves effort now and what can wait.

You are carrying decisions beyond your technical specialism

Product development brings questions about users, pricing, partnerships, delivery and growth. You want someone who can understand the technology, challenge your thinking and help with the work.

What I bring to a partnership

Understanding the customer

I help explore who the product is for, how it fits into their work or life, and what they need to achieve. Through conversations, research and testing, we can identify what customers value and where they encounter difficulty.

Establishing product and business direction

I connect opportunities, technical capability and commercial priorities. Together, we can shape requirements, make development choices and build a roadmap that links longer-term ambition to practical next steps.

Translating between technical and commercial needs

I help make complex information understandable and relevant to the audience. This can include clarifying the product proposition, preparing demonstrations and meeting materials, and supporting discussions with customers or potential partners.

Helping move the work forward

My contribution can extend from advice into delivery: facilitating meetings, investigating options, preparing information, testing ideas and working through decisions with you. We agree where my involvement will be most useful and how responsibilities will work.

Who I work with

A strong starting point is a founder who:

  • Understands a real problem through first-hand experience.

  • Has developed a working solution or can demonstrate credible progress.

  • Wants to understand customers as deeply as the technology.

  • Is open to constructive challenge and shared decision-making.

  • Sees a route to repeat sales, licences, subscriptions or ongoing customer value.

You do not need every answer before we speak. We do need a shared willingness to examine the evidence, make choices and act.

How a partnership develops

1. Understand the opportunity

We begin with your product, the problem it addresses, what you have learned from customers and what you want to achieve. We explore where my contribution could help.

2. Establish how we would work together

We agree an initial scope, responsibilities and priorities. This gives us an opportunity to understand the work and our fit before making a longer-term commitment.

3. Agree the right arrangement

Where there is a strong mutual fit, we can discuss a longer-term product partnership. Commercial arrangements may combine consultancy fees with participation in product revenue, agreed individually to reflect the contribution, commitment and opportunity.

Some businesses will be better served by a focused consultancy assignment. We can establish that together.

Experience that connects technology, people and business

My background includes shaping product and technology roadmaps, leading complex engineering development, improving customer experiences and creating monetised software functionality.

Across these settings, I have helped teams understand the problem, identify opportunities and turn complex information into decisions people can act on.

That breadth allows me to bring relevant ideas from other industries while taking the time to understand what makes your product and customers different.
