Accelerating Product Development in Heavy Industry
Heavy Industrial · Steam & Mining
Bringing clarity, transparency and momentum to complex product development—helping products get delivered on time, within budget and in line with strategy.
The Challenge
Developing products across heavy industrial environments involves complex engineering, physical machinery and connected digital technology.
The challenge was to support and speed up product development while giving teams and stakeholders a clear view of project progress, timelines, risks and the work being undertaken.
The Approach
I was brought in to support and accelerate product development. A key part of my contribution was introducing a mechanism that made delivery more visible and transparent.
This provided clarity on:
Where each project sat against its timeline.
The risks associated with delivery.
What work was underway.
Where attention and action were needed.
By making this information visible, teams and stakeholders could build a shared understanding of progress and the issues that needed addressing.
Creating space to refocus
Delivery isn’t always about doing more. Sometimes teams need to step back, challenge assumptions and decide what really matters.
The mechanism helped create the clarity needed to recognise when to “put their pens down”, take stock and refocus effort on the work that would move products forward.
The Result
Products were delivered on time, within budget and in line with strategy.
The delivery mechanism brought greater transparency to project timelines, risks and work underway—giving teams and stakeholders a clearer picture of progress and helping maintain focus on delivery.
The Takeaway
Complex product development needs more than activity. It needs visibility, shared understanding and the judgement to know when to pause and refocus.
By introducing a clear delivery mechanism and supporting technical teams, FLP Catalyst helped turn complexity into a more transparent, focused path to delivery.
